Melissa Loveless was the ringleader of four teenage girls who brutally totured and murdered Shanda Sharer. The details of this horrendous crime sickened me and almost defied the imagination. They subjected Shanda to 10 hours of torture and abuse. They tried to cut her throat but the knife was too dull so they repeatedly stabbed her. They tried to strangle her, drove her to one of the teen's homes where she was forced to disrobe and was brutally beaten. Then she was driven to a remote location where they doused her with gasoline (she was still alive at this point) and set her on fire. Loveless and one of the others were sentenced to 60 years, another was also originally sentenced to 60 years but had 10 years shaved off because of mitigating circumstances. The fourth girl was sentenced to 20 years but was released after serving only 9 years. Another walked after serving 13 years. Now Loveless (she certainly lived up to her name) is also seeking an early release. I was totally disturbed by the senselessness and the brutality and ruthlessness displayed in this murder. I cannot even begin to imagine the sheer terror and excruciating pain that Shanda suffered before she died. It makes me want to cry. These girls should have been behind bars for life, particularly Loveless, who bragged about the murder in prison. No remorse has been shown.
