April killer Mark Bridger slashed in jail
Monster scarred in blade attack at Wakefield Prison
Mark Bridger, 47, screamed in pain as another lag slashed his face with a makeshift knife.
Bridger, serving life for murdering April, needed stitches after the attack at Wakefield Prison, West Yorks, on Sunday afternoon as he walked along a gangway.
Prison officers instantly rushed to save Bridger — caged after his conviction in May — from further injury. He was taken to a local hospital where medics stitched his face.
The Sun told yesterday how Bridger feared being killed after being moved out of the vulnerable prisoners’ unit at the jail, dubbed Monster Mansion.
A source said: “He was attacked by at least one inmate and suffered serious injuries to his face.
“If he was in any doubt about the level of hatred towards him as a convicted child killer, that doubt has been firmly removed now.”
Last night Prison Service officials said police were probing the attack.
Bridger snatched April near her home in Machynlleth, Powys, in October.
The five-year-old’s body has never been found.
